Where to Eat Near the Pyramids
Most food around the Giza plateau is built for tour buses, not for you. But a few tables genuinely earn the trip — some with the Pyramids in the window, one literally on the plateau, and a grand old hotel that has fed travellers for over a century. Here's where to book.
A table on the plateau
9 Pyramids Lounge is the only restaurant set inside the Giza Pyramids complex itself — all nine pyramids in a single view. It's casual, Egyptian, and best in the morning or at golden hour. Right beside the plateau, Khufu's is the marquee table: modern Egyptian cooking and the Great Pyramid framed in glass. Reserve well ahead, especially for sunset.
Mena House: history with a view
The legendary hotel at the foot of the Pyramids is a destination in itself. 139 Pavilion does all-day international dining with the monuments in the background; Alfredo is its old-school Italian room; and The Moghul Room serves North Indian classics with live sitar — one of Cairo's most storied dining rooms.
Tips for booking
- Time it for the light. Sunset and early morning are when the plateau looks its best — and when the good tables fill first.
- Book ahead. The pyramid-view seats are limited; a walk-in often means no view.
- Going for the view, not a feast? A coffee or breakfast at 9 Pyramids is the easiest way in.
