The Best Restaurants in Zamalek
Cairo's leafy island has always punched above its weight for food — old institutions, Nile-side tables, and a tight grid you can wander between courses. Here's where to eat in Zamalek.
On the Nile
Crimson Bar & Grill is the rooftop everyone wants at sunset, wrapping the river on three sides. Pier 88 floats just off the island for Italian seafood and a late-night scene, and the classic Nile Maxim cruise sets off from here with dinner and live music.
Egyptian classics
For the real thing, Abou El Sid is the brass-and-drapes Egyptian institution — molokheya, stuffed pigeon, the lot. Zooba does street food in its Sunday best, Cairo Kitchen keeps it homestyle, and Kebabgy handles the charcoal grills with a river view.
Italian & international
Zamalek's Italian streak runs deep: La Trattoria and the Le Pacha boat's Piccolo Mondo, plus everyone's casual standby Maison Thomas for pizza. For something different, La Palmeraie brings Moroccan to the Sofitel, and Le Tarbouche does Levantine on the Le Pacha 1901 boat.
